About Protea in Hawaii

The genus Protea was named in 1735 after the Greek God Proteus who could change his form at will. This family of flowers offers diversity in form, size, colors and especially texture.

Malolo Farm has been fortunate to acquire many beautiful new varieties of leucospermum, pincushion, from the University of Hawaii’s hybridization program creating hundreds of new varieties of Protea unique to Hawaii.  We are grateful to be able to offer to you these unique beauties!

Warm days and cool nights along with the elevation and well drained acidic, volcanic soil of Haleakala provide an exceptional growing environment for Protea. This produces the colorful, long stem exotic blooms you will enjoy for weeks
